On Seeing
Living with Things
I return to the familiar, again and again,
not to paint it differently, but to understand how I have changed.
Every painting marks another way of seeing.
On Painting People
I never imagined I would paint people.
Portraits were the one subject I thought I didn't like.
Then I wondered if I had looked closely enough to say that.
Painting become a way of asking again.
Silence
I have always been a quiet person.
Perhaps my paintings are simply another way of being quiet.
