​​​I don’t think I choose my subjects. They stay with me until they become paintings.

For many years, I believed I was painting still life. Looking back, I realise that what interested me was never the objects themselves, but
how time slowly changed the way I saw them.
Most of the things that appear in my paintings are part of my everyday life. I collect them, live with them, move them from place to place, and return to them over many years. They are never chosen to illustrate an idea. Instead, they gradually become part of my way of seeing. Rearranging them is less about composing an image than about discovering relationships that reveal themselves only through time and attention.

Perhaps this way of looking has been quietly shaped by Chinese landscape painting. What has remained with me is not its imagery, but
its shifting perspective. There is no single fixed point of view. The eye wanders, pauses, returns, and slowly constructs its own understanding. Although I paint in oil, this way of seeing continues to guide my practice.

Over time, the images in my work have changed from still life, to animals, and more recently, to the human figure. I do not think of these as different subjects. They are different ways of asking the same question.

Lately, I have become interested in the moment when an image begins to dissolve. I no longer feel the need to describe a figure completely. Instead, I want to discover how little can remain before we still sense a presence. I am drawn to the place where colour, gesture and space begin to carry what representation can no longer hold.

Painting has never been a way for me to explain the world. It is how I continue learning to see.
